Who is Ruben and what Barn?
It all began in the icy tundra of Norrbotten in Northern Sweden. Deep in the enchanted windswept pine forest, Ruben and his family had a little wooden hut with the closest neighbor taking two days to reach. Despite the piercing cold winter weather, this was a home that always remained warm thanks to Ruben. Not only did he always find joy in maintaining the fireplace, but his cheerful, friendly personality was one to add warmth and coziness to the atmosphere. Ruben was well known for his love for children and always dreamt of having a great big family. He was famous for instantly relating to the little ones and they in turn enjoyed his presence.
And so, with fond memories of her kind and caring father, ceramic designer Ewa would tell stories to her friend and apparel designer, Teruko. The two would later decide to pay homage to Ruben by naming their company after him. Because “barn” means children in Swedish, this was natural to include to the name since children are the very focus of Rubens Barn just as they were back in the days for Ruben.
